Follow along live as the F1 grid takes to the streets of Monte Carlo for the biggest qualifying session of the season In a few hours, one of the most dramatic events of the Formula 1 season will begin.
Qualifying at the Monaco Grand Prix.
While the race itself has become something of a procession, as overtaking is rather difficult on the narrow Monte Carlo streets, Saturday’s qualifying session rarely fails to deliver drama. The lack of overtaking — which the sport’s governing body hopes a new mandatory two-stop rule will change — means qualifying up front takes on greater importance in Monaco.
That means each driver is going to push their cars, and themselves, beyond the limits. But with the walls, and danger, looming around every corner disaster is lurking with every turn of the wheel.
What drama awaits us on this Saturday? We are about to find out. SB Nation will have full, live coverage of today’s qualifying session, so come back throughout the day as qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix unfolds.
Note: All updates are in Eastern time.

Hernandez sends Dodgers past Mets in 13 innings in wild and rainy NLCS rematch

Hernandez sends Dodgers past Mets in 13 innings in wild and rainy NLCS rematch

NEW YORK — Teoscar Hernández led off the 13th inning with an RBI double and the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the New York Mets 7-5 in a wild rematch of last year’s National League Championship Series on a rainy Friday night at Citi Field.
As the clock approached midnight, New York tied it with three runs in the ninth off closer Tanner Scott. Jeff McNeil laced a two-run triple and Tyrone Taylor followed with an RBI single to make it 5-all, sending hardy fans left in a crowd of 40,449 into a frenzy after they waited out a 98-minute rain delay in the third.
But the Mets squandered chance after chance to win over the final five innings — sometimes with their best hitters at the plate — and Los Angeles finally broke through in the 13th against Huascar Brazobán (3-1), the ninth New York pitcher.
Automatic runner Will Smith scored from second on the double by Hernández, who also had an early two-run single. Hernández scrambled to third on Hyeseong Kim’s single and came home on Andy Pages’ sacrifice fly to make it 7-5.
Luis García (2-0) pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings for the win, raising his arms on the mound when center fielder Tommy Edman made a sliding catch at 12:56 a.m. for the final out of a game that took 4 hours, 8 minutes – not including the rain delay.
Moments later, a message on the giant videoboard reminded fans to stick around for the fireworks show that followed.
Smith, Pages and Max Muncy each had an RBI single for the Dodgers, who won the 2024 NLCS in six games on the way to their eighth World Series title. Los Angeles is 20-5 at Citi Field since 2017, including the postseason.
Brett Baty homered for the Mets, who have lost six of eight. Pete Alonso was gifted a sacrifice fly on an unusual play in the fourth.
It appeared Hernández threw out Starling Marte at the plate with a strong peg from right field, but third base umpire Tripp Gibson called obstruction on Muncy at third base for blocking Marte’s view of Hernández making the catch.
Clayton Kershaw’s second start for the Dodgers this season since coming off the injured list was cut short by the rain delay in the top of the third.
Key moments
Mets rookie Luisangel Acuña stranded the potential winning run at third base in the ninth and 11th.
Key stat
Scott was handed his fourth blown save in 14 chances this season.
Up next
Dodgers RHP Tony Gonsolin (2-0, 4.05 ERA) makes his fifth start of the season Saturday night against LHP David Peterson (2-2, 2.86).

Valkyries’ rookies followed big win with very wholesome postgame interview

Valkyries’ rookies followed big win with very wholesome postgame interview

Janelle Salaün and Carla Leite dominated Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks — and then collectively answered postgame questions. On Friday night, the Golden State Valkyries beat the Los Angeles Sparks 82-73, marking their second victory in three nights.
Then, their two French standouts — rookies Carla Leite and Janelle Salaün — collaborated on a wholesome postgame television interview that punctuated another successful night for the WNBA’s newest franchise.
It was only fitting that Leite and Salaün answered questions together, as both young players were instrumental in the Valkyries’ success against the Sparks.
Salaün tallied 18 points and 8 rebounds in 30 minutes, hitting 4 of 8 three-pointers. Leite, meanwhile, ran the team’s offense, erupting for 19 points on 7-10 shooting alongside 3 assists.

Afterwards, Leite was asked what it meant to help secure the franchise’s second win.
“My English is not very good, so she will…” Leite trailed, smiling and pointing to her Valkyries teammate, who subsequently translated the reporter’s question.

“She’s super happy, and she hopes we’re going to keep playing like that,” Salaün said. “She’s happy. She’s happy.”

The Valkyries’ French standouts have been key to their early success
Carla Leite arrived in Golden State by way of December’s expansion draft; the Valkyries selected the 21-year-old Leite after she was left unprotected by the Dallas Wings, who drafted her 9th overall in 2024.
Janelle Salaün, meanwhile, signed a training camp deal with the Valkyries in February. The Valkyries are 2-0 with her in the lineup.
In addition to Leite and Salaün, Veronica Burton, who had 12 points and 5 steals, and Kayla Thornton, who had 14 points and 10 rebounds, have also been key contributors for Golden State.
Before the season, Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase told SB Nation she had high expectations for the roster.
“If you study the 11 players that I already chose, they fit all those characteristics that we really want, that are really important, in order to have a championship culture in the future,” she said.
“I want to work really, really hard — that’s just kind of how I’m built,” Nakase said. “I’m very competitive. I hate losing.”
Under her leadership, a roster that most expected to be one of the worst in the WNBA has already exceeded expectations in the early days, picking up wins against the Washington Mystics and the Sparks.
The challenge only grows from here: starting on Tuesday, they’ll visit the defending champion New York Liberty for two consecutive road games.

Pacers and Racers: Indianapolis set for epic sports Sunday

Pacers and Racers: Indianapolis set for epic sports Sunday

Start your engines, Indianapolis sports fans.
The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend always is reserved for ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ in Indy.
But this year, the Brickyard will share the spotlight with the hardwood on a sensational sporting Sunday.
The Indianapolis 500 will be followed hours later by Game 3 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.
Indy is going a bit hoops crazy after the Pacers won both games in New York to put the team just two wins away from making its second NBA Finals appearance in franchise history.

Meanwhile, the grandstands are sold out at the Indy 500 for the first time since 2016 and close to 350,000 fans are expected at the race.
“Everybody knows the Indy 500 is on the same day, so we’ll have some rowdy fans, maybe a little intoxicated,” Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton told TNT following Friday’s Game 2 win, per the Indianapolis Star. “Who knows how it’ll get out there. You know, it’ll be a lot of fun, I think they call it ‘Pacers and Racers,’ you know it’ll be my first time experiencing it. It’ll be a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to it.”
It marks the fourth ‘Pacers and Racers’ Day in Indy history, with the NBA team losing on the past three occasions.

There will be Canadian content in both events.
Toronto’s Devlin DeFrancesco starts 16th on the Brickyard grid, while the Pacers’ roster includes Andrew Nembhard of Aurora, Ont., and Montreal’s Bennedict Mathurin.
What started as a sombre sports week in Indianapolis following the death of Colts owner Jim Irsay has turned into one of the most memorable stretches in recent memory.
Irsay’s daughter, Casey Foyt, will wave the green flag at the Indy 500.
As if all this isn’t enough, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever host the reigning WNBA champion New York Liberty on Saturday.
